a new phone

June 15th, 2008 | Category: Friends, School, Shopping, Three, VCE, Work

My trusty Nokia 6288 died on Friday for no apparent reason. After spending the day trying to resurrect the thing I concluded that I would have to replace it. So yesterday I went to Big W and bought the cheapest ‘3′ phone I could find which turned out to be the Skype phone. I am actually pretty impressed with the Skype phone, although it is harder to use than my Nokia. The phone cost me just under $130 which I thought was pretty good, especially since its RRP is $149.

Other than my new phone nothing overly exciting has happened at all over the weekend, not that I have had much of a weekend with work and all. Although on Friday I did get to supervise the GAT at Haileybury which was alright, though I must say the only thing more boring than doing the GAT is watching people do the GAT.

Also Happy Birthday to Luke who turns 19 today.

round one offers are out

January 14th, 2008 | Category: Blog, Uni, VCE

Well today was the big day. So at 7:30pm I went to the closest ‘participating’ newsagent and bought the special edition paper which of course had the uni offers in it. Anyway I’m happy to announce that I received an offer for Arts at Monash University which is definitely a relief. I am very happy with my offer and over the next few days I will way it up with offers from Universities in NSW (which come out on Thursday I think). So I hope everyone is pleased with their offer and for all those that missed out I wish you luck in Round 2.

welcome 2008

January 01st, 2008 | Category: Blog, Drama, Editorial, Family, Friends, Holidays, Home, MCC, School, Shopping, Uni, VCE

Well 2007 has finally ended and what a year it has been. It amazes me just how fast 2007 went, it seems like it was only yesterday that I was recapping 2006. So here’s what happened in my life in 2007.

  • Turned 18 (probably the biggest thing to happen)
  • Subsequently went to Crown and a great time was had by all (you all know the story)
  • Got my license (again a very big thing)
  • Began, and successfully completed Year 12
  • Graduated from Haileybury.
  • Went to the Year 12 Formal
  • My Great Grandmother passed away
  • Had a fantastic year as a School Prefect and Vice Captain of Editorial
  • Bought an iPod (who’d of thought!)
  • Also bought a GPS (yeah I know it was only a couple of days ago but it was a highlight of 2007)
  • Went to the Boxing Day Test
  • Drastically improved this blog by getting a domain name, a host and moving it to the Wordpress platform
  • Went to Sydney to visit my brother and see the city (twice)
  • Went down to Phillip Island for ’schoolies’
  • Saw the school play ‘Inheritance’
  • Saw the school musical ‘Fame’
  • Saw the Castlefield musical “A High School Musical” (Luke also went to see it as he “received” tickets for his birthday)
  • Applied for University, and received my VCE results.

So that’s 2007 in review, I wish everyone a happy new year and I look forward to recapping what I hope will be a wonderful 2008.

the results are in

December 17th, 2007 | Category: Shopping, VCE

Today was the dreaded day for VCE results. I received mine via sms at approximately 7:18am. I must admit I am marginally disappointed, one subject in particular, National Politics. Here is a breakdown of my scores;

EN01 - English
GA 1: A+
GA 2: A+
GA 3: B
Study Score: 36
MA07 - Further Mathematics
GA 1: A
GA 2: B+
GA 3: B
Study Score: 34
NP03 - National Politics
GA 1: A
GA 2: B+
GA 3: B+
Study Score: 31
SO03 - Sociology
GA 1: A
GA 2: A+
GA 3: A
Study Score: 39

This gives me a grand old ENTER score of 81.55 which is enough to get me into the course I want to do which is what counts. What has really annoyed me is the scaling which makes these modest results look appalling.

VCE is over!

November 15th, 2007 | Category: School, VCE

Today I finished my last ever VCE exam. It marks the end of 13 years of schooling and 6 years at Haileybury. It is a great feeling knowing that it is all over and that I will never have to write down that stupid VCE number again. So now it is onto weeks of partying and getting very drunk. Now I’m sitting in Aikman Hall eagerly awaiting the beginning and subsequent end of the Dance Gala, hopefully you are all doing well (or have done well) in your exams.

no more maths ever!

November 07th, 2007 | Category: School, VCE

That’s right, today was my last ever Maths exam. I didn’t do as well as I hoped but that doesn’t really bother me as I plan on maths being my 7th subject. I also had my Sociology exam today which went way better than I expected, so I’m hoping that I get a score above 40 for it (plus if I get above 40 in either english or national politics without getting below 35 for the other one then I will get the score I’m aiming for). It’s great knowing that my next exam is over a week away ands its in my best subject (academically that is). Anyway I’m really glad to get today over (I remember seeing in June that I had two exams in one day and I was quite annoyed) and now it’s onto National Politics. PS. Did I mention that I don’t ever have maths again!

1 down 3 to go

November 02nd, 2007 | Category: School, VCE

Today was the fantastic VCE English exam. It went pretty well although there was one glaring error on the VCE Exam. On the top corner instead of saying English 2007, it said 2006 meaning some one made a stuff up. It amazes me how something that should have gone through countless proof reading and draft could have such an error. In other news tonight is the Sports Presentation Night, thankfully my services aren’t required. In other news today we (ie. the prefects 2007) gave Mr. Scott his gift, he was very happy with it which I was happy with as it wasn’t the easiest thing to organise (take the usual amount of Haileybury paperwork, then double it). Anyway now back to Maths study.

one more school day

October 23rd, 2007 | Category: Friends, School, VCE

There’s one more day of school before I graduate. Today was the last combined assembly which was rather sad. We sang “For We Are Haileybury” and there’s was a funny Pac Man prank that happened during assembly. I also had my last classes today which also included my last ever class of Math. It’s kinda sad to finish classes but they have never been my favourite part of school. I also gave most of my teachers there gifts which for many was a bottle of wine, although Watto got the South African Edition of Monopoly (and a bottle of wine). I still have to give some of my smaller gifts out (ie. to teachers that didn’t teach me etc.) many of them are those page a day calendars which I got a pretty good deal on and chocolates.

Today was the last day with the girls which was rather sad, and I spent most of the day getting hugs and signing dresses (and the occasional shirt for those guys that couldn’t wait till thursday). Tomorrow there is no school as it is the girls graduation, then finally Thursday is our graduation which I’m looking forward, yet at the same time it feels like it is way too soon.

finally it’s spring

September 01st, 2007 | Category: Blog, Politics, School, VCE

Well it is finally Spring which is certainly my favourite time of the year (maybe not so much this year due to those inconsiderate people at VCAA). I’ve spent the last week doing school work as I have 3 SAC’s next week (one of them is a 3 day math SAC) which has meant that I haven’t updated this blog as much as I should. Once exams are over I will be making some pretty cool changes to this blog which will overall make it a more exciting place to visit. One thing I would like to talk about is my sociology excursion on Thursday to an organisation called Urban Seed. They run a lunch program for the homeless in the hope of giving them a safe environment and someone to talk to. It was a pretty interesting excursion (not really relevant to the sociology course, but was good nonetheless) and I encourage you to have a quick look at their website and donate some money if you can.
