university results

July 10th, 2008 | Category: Uni

Well my Semester 1 results have just been released, and I must say I am quite surprised. I was convinced I wouldnt do all that well in Sociology or Politics but in the end I managed to get a Distinction. So here are my full results;

Subject

Mark

Grade

History (Nations at War)

83

HD

International Studies

81

HD

Australian Politics

72

D

Sociology

71

D

This gives me a GPA average of 3.50 or an overall average mark of 76.75 which is a D (Distinction). So overall I am very pleased with my results, I really thought that I would do terribly in Sociology but thanks to an easy exam I managed to get a D.

assignments galore

April 28th, 2008 | Category: Friends, Uni, Work

Well its that time of semester where all my subjects have their assignments due. I have completed half of my essays which is good, with the next one being due on Friday (and I have Thursday off, how convenient). After this essay on Friday I don’t have another one for another 3 weeks which will give me a chance to relax for a little bit.

There hasn’t been a whole lot happening apart from Uni and work. I did however go out for the monthly dinner last Thursday with Luke Hawley, Al Bryant, James Lescohier etc. We went to Nacho’s Mexican Cantina in Oakleigh which was rather nice (’Mexican’ would have to be one of my favourite foods). It was also the first time my trusty TomTom let me down, it drove me straight past the place and was trying to get me to go god knows where.

Hopefully I have more to report at the end of this week, but unfortunately I do doubt it since I am usually not allowed to mention anything work related (apart from vague details) on this blog and the things I can mention are boring and trivial.

it’s been a long day

April 05th, 2008 | Category: Home, Technical, Uni

Today has been one of those days where things that happened this morning seem like they were months ago. One thing that has been keeping me very busy is University assignments, which of course seem to be all due in the same week. Although I must admit I am enjoying the work, its much more interesting than anything I have previously done. For Sociology we had to watch the documentary "7 UP" which some of you may know is the first installment of a series that documents the life of 14 people from age 7, it is filmed every 7 years with the most recent installment "49 UP" being released in 2005.

One of the things that struck me about the series is that it was so easy (for most of them) to see where they were going in life. Nearly all of them followed the pattern predicted and it made me wonder what can people see about me? Where do they predict I’m headed? One of the surprising cases in this series is that of Neil, who at age 7, is articulate, intelligent and seems to have a bright future, now I wont spoil it for you but where he ends up at age 49 and more important how he got there is completely different to what could of been predicted.

I have recently been thinking about where I want to be in 5 years, admittedly I am still very undecided. Luckily I am doing a very general degree that leaves many doors open. Although one thought I have been toying with is getting into the IT field, it’s something I enjoy and am moderately good at. A few years ago I made the decision not to follow the IT path any further (ie at a VCE or Tertiary level) and I have recently been left thinking whether that was a mistake. Hopefully I can make a decision soon enough since while I am doing my degree there are many opportunities to study IT at a tertiary level.

first day of university

February 25th, 2008 | Category: School, Uni

Well today was the first day of actual classes at Uni. It was funny to see all the people eagerly pull out their notebooks to write down every word the lecturers said. It’s good to be finally doing something now but I’m sure the novelty will wear off quickly enough though.

Apart from the start of Uni there really isn’t much else to report, although it does look like by the end of the week the Year 12 Magazine will finally be finished.

and it all starts back up again

February 20th, 2008 | Category: Home, School, Uni

Well it seems my rather long break is coming to a close and in its place will be the demands of Uni and work. I am looking forward to it since at the moment I have almost nothing to do, it will be good to be busy again not too mention productive as well. Today I was at Monash for their “this is a lecture, this is a tutorial” speech thingy which wasn’t particularly exciting. I will be heading down to Haileybury again tomorrow to work on these last stages of the magazine (looking forward to it being all over). Apart from that there’s not much else to report on.

poker night

February 03rd, 2008 | Category: Friends, Uni

Well last night we had our monthly poker night at Pat’s place. A good night was had by all (except Luke who was apparently sick and pulled out at the last moment), with drinking, poker, drunken tennis in the dark and watching movies being the most popular activities. We are all eagerly anticipating next months night which will no doubt be just as entertaining.

In other news, Uni starts soon which is a pretty major thing at the moment, and it will mean I have to get a job (a proper job I mean) in order to pay for the things I enjoy most (driving, drinking and buying things from JB Hi Fi).

and the week comes to a close

January 25th, 2008 | Category: School, Uni

Well this week has probably been one of the more stressful weeks since I graduated from school, and I have found myself getting more and more ’short’ with people, dispensing with the usual customary politeness. I have even found myself barking at people despite the fact that they really have done nothing wrong. However some of the people have been deserving of it, since they can’t seem to comprehend the fact that I have a job to do and I want to get it done in the minimum time possible without wasting any more of my time.  The good news though is that this time next week I will pretty much have two weeks of nothing before I am required again at Haileybury.

On another less bitchy note, Monash called me today to offer me a place at Clayton which I declined (since I’m at Caulfield and Clayton anyway), however it was good to know they cared :) .

congratulations your account is now created

January 16th, 2008 | Category: Editorial, School, Uni

After receiving my Monash “enrolment” package I decided to begin the whole enrolment process. So after creating my Novell account I began to see if I could complete the rest of the enrolment process which unfortunately it seems like I can’t until tomorrow or something like that. In other news the Year 12 magazine seems to be going at a very slow pace with very little done over the last few days, I hope we can get a bit done today and over the next week before all the staff get here.

round one offers are out

January 14th, 2008 | Category: Blog, Uni, VCE

Well today was the big day. So at 7:30pm I went to the closest ‘participating’ newsagent and bought the special edition paper which of course had the uni offers in it. Anyway I’m happy to announce that I received an offer for Arts at Monash University which is definitely a relief. I am very happy with my offer and over the next few days I will way it up with offers from Universities in NSW (which come out on Thursday I think). So I hope everyone is pleased with their offer and for all those that missed out I wish you luck in Round 2.

at least the hot weather is gone (for now)

January 13th, 2008 | Category: School, Uni

Well my house is now a bearable temperature, and I must say it’s about time. There’s not a whole lot to tell you about since my last update, just been spending my time at Haileybury finishing off the Year 12 magazine (which is finally nearing completion). So after my 3 day weekend I will be heading yet again back to Haileybury for pretty much the week and will hopefully get this thing done and approved by end of January. Also uni offers come out tomorrow night (7:30pm) which shall be interesting, however I can guarantee that I wont bother to go out and buy a ’special edition’ of the paper tomorrow so I will probably find out on Tuesday, but I will keep you all ‘posted’.
