indiana jones comes back to our screens
On Friday night, James, Nick, Luke, Christiaan and myself went to Southland to watch the new Indiana Jones film. Naturally I was a little disappointed with the movie as it really lacked that Indiana Jones feel to it. It just seemed to me that they filmed a movie and suddenly at the last minute decided to call it Indiana Jones. I also thought the storyline was just a tad bit more far fetched than the first ones (admittedly they weren’t exactly a reality series but this movie is definitely more ‘out there’). Overall though I wasn’t as disappointed as I thought I would be so thats certainly a bonus.
In other news I have had work everyday since Friday which has just been a whole lot of fun. But it least it gives me money to spend ![]()
now wireless
Well as some of you already know my recent house moving has meant that running network cable to connect my computer to the internet is no longer feasible. So on Thursday night I went and purchased a Netgear wireless card for my desktop computer. So after setting it all up on Saturday afternoon I found that I could receive very little wireless signal. So after testing the signal with the laptop I found that I should be getting a strong signal. So basically I concluded that it was the Netgear wireless card that was the problem, so I returned the card back to JB Hi-Fi who gave me a refund (now try and get that on ebay) and then proceeded to give me a discount on the D-Link card which made it roughly the same price as the Netgear one. So the D-Link card is working very well (with an “Excellent” wireless signal) and I strongly discourage anyone from buying a Netgear product (look them up on the internet, they have nothing but bad reviews, especially the product I purchased) and I would certainly encourage people to shop at JB Hi-Fi who have been nothing but understanding and helpful through this whole ordeal and it is their service (particularly when their is a problem) that makes me shop at their store rather than saving a few dollars by going on eBay (which in this case would have cost me money).
No commentsback in good ol’ Melbourne
Well my wonderful week in Sydney ended today which is rather sad, but it’s good to be home. The flight back was interesting as I sat behind a couple of people (executives etc) from Wesfarmers (the people buying Coles). Anyway I’ve decided to put on this blog what I did each day before I forget so that in a couple of years I can remember it all (I don’t actually expect you to care, its merely for my own benefit)
Monday: Flew to Sydney on QF430, Visited MaCarthur Square Shopping Centre
Tuesday: Went into the Sydney CBD and had a look at the Pitt Street Mall, and around the CBD.
Wednesday: Went to Homebush, then made my way to North Sydney and walked back to Sydney across the Harbour Bridge. Went up to Pylon Lookout at the bridge which gave awesome views of Sydney and the harbour.
Thursday: Went to Bondi beach and then made my way back through Kings Cross (a very seedy place).
Friday: Went to the top of Sydney tower which gave me a 360 degree view of Sydney (well worth the entrance fee if your ever in Sydney), then made my way back down to earth and walked through Hyde Park and saw the barracks, then made my way north along Macquarie St and walked to the Opera House via the Botanical Gardens. Walked around the Opera House and got some awesome photos of both the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Then Friday night went out to Club 209.
Saturday: Took the ferry to Manly, then went to North Head (the northern opening of the harbour) which afforded some awesome views of Sydney and the harbour.
Sunday: Had a walk around The Rocks and Circular Quay.
Monday: Flew back to Melbourne on QF 419.
In other news I got my phone and VOIP adapter today, anyway its with MyNetFone and costs me $0 per month with a free DID (normal phone number). It offers me 10c untimed national calls, 15c per minute calls to mobiles and from 1.9c per minute international (very handy for calling people I know overseas). The reason I got a VOIP service was to try and cut down on my mobile usage and it was a really awesome offer (via Whirlpool). I was very glad that I made the order in time (offer ended last Friday) because the ANZ took ages in issuing me with my Visa Debit Card (benefit of VISA without the debt!!!).
No commentsblog visitors
I was talking to Luke Hawley on the phone just before about visitors to my blog. It has always intrigued me to know whether I know the people that come to my blog, either personally or through association. After looking through my reference sources, search terms and repeat visitor numbers I can conclude that most of the visitors that come to my blog either know me, or at least have some association with my school, friends or family. So I thought that I would post most top ten search terms that I receive visitors from;
1. Matthew Kennedy (including variations such as Matthew Kennedy Haileybury etc.)
2. James Panther (including variations, thanks Pant!!)
3. Haileybury (and variations)
4. Year 12 formal (have had a huge number of searches since the formal)
5. Luke Hawley (including variations, Luke admitted that many of these may be him googling his own name)
6. Cardinia Reservoir (one family trip has led to hundreds of extra visitors to my blog)
7. Connex (finally they are giving me something back)
8. Quotes (including searches for individual quotes)
9. Three (including variations such as “it’s good to be 3″, and Three Hutchinson)
10. Sahil Shekhar (and variations)
So there you have it, if you type in the above words in Google or any other search engine of your choice you will eventually come across this blog. I also receive a number of visitors from other blogs such as Luke’s, Stephen’s and even Pant’s (visitors from Pants blog have died down recently though). I also get a lot of visitors through my MySpace page and Facebook profile.
There are also many people that use Feed readers to view my blog, with the most popular being Google Reader and BlogPulse, although these two readers make up less than 50% of my feed readership with the rest coming from ‘Other’ readers.
2 commentsthe biggest event of the year has now arrived
Yes thats right, my 100th post is officially the biggest event of 2007. Forget about the release of the Nokia N95, Windows Vista and a federal election. This tops them all. Satwick suggested I look at my blog in retrospect, and I have decided I will at least highlight the moments of this blogs life that have made your lives so fulfilling. Last July xD was born on the blogger service, it was changed and adapted and moved over to wordpress. Since then it has grown, a large array of ‘extras’ have appeared and I have been able to fulfill my original goal of this blog. That is to establish, operate and maintain a website (albeit a small one).
I have to mention a couple of individuals that have of course made the blog what it is today, Luke Hawley (who gave me the whole idea), Satwick (loyal reader), Bosko (loyal reader), James Lescohier (fellow blogger), Chris Boughdady (I’m only putting him up here cause he asked) and of course James Panther, who’s own blog has proved invaluable, insightful (the features, not the actual posts) and has taught me a lot about intellectual property laws (All my ideas are original, I swear
).
Now enough with the champagne and celebrations is time to get down to what this blog is about; my life.
Today was nothing hugely special, the first day of school was largely uneventful. I got to send a couple of whingeing emails (to our junior precincts) and also sent a complaint email to James in IT (I think he’s pretty used to ‘em by now). I hope you have all enjoyed my first 100 posts and there will be many more to come.
4 commentsnew layout
As you are now probably aware, I changed the layout of this humble blog. The reason behind this change was the fact that the old one was very bland and boring so I’ve now got one with a bit of colour.
Also Bosko, I will seriously start blocking iPhone comments (that joke is so old) also another quick comment to those that leave comments on the blog. Don’t bother making the damn comment if you disagree with something I have said because I’m just gonna delete it. This is a dictatorship not some piss weak democracy.
7 commentsapril fools
Today is of course April 1st and in its usual style Google has perpetrated its annual April Fools joke. Let me announce it to you “Gmail Paper”. Basically they offer to print out any emails, photos etc (but no Mp3’s) and mail it too you. I thought this joke was pretty funny and especially liked their bit about the environment
But what about the environment?
Not a problem. Gmail Paper is made out of 96% post-consumer organic soybean sputum, and thus, actually helps the environment. For every Gmail Paper we produce, the environment gets incrementally healthier.
Heres the link to the product page.
Heres another one of google’s jokes, they basically offer wireless internet down your toilet. Check out the setup instructions for a laugh.
Whirlpool also did their annual April fools joke announcing “Mandatory ISP filtering will block P2P”. It’s amazing the amount of people that fall for it, seriously as if the government would ever block P2P, it would be political suicide. Hope your all enjoying your April 1st.

I was on Whirlpool when I saw this link, I definately recommend you have a look as it has some pretty eye opening statistics. It basically breaks down the worlds population into 100 people, and gives statistics such as 61 people would be Asian, 12 would be European etc. Anyway hopefully you watch it and take something away from it. it’s bond, james bond
Today I went and saw the new James Bond film, Casino Royale up at Hoyts. I thought it was pretty good (I’m a sucker for James Bond films) and was much better than some of the previous James Bond films (the modern ones, not the old ones which I think are good). In other news I’ve bought a new wireless modem which is much better than our old one (the new one is made by CISCO). Well it’s now only a week until Christmas, and people are running around like mad trying to finish their Christmas shopping which is annoying for people like me whom are picking things up like magazines from Borders.
Tomorrow I will be running around Chadstone, and the City, picking up things like tennis tickets, and gift vouchers (I seem to be doing all my families Christmas shopping for them). Hope your all having a great break, study hard and don’t do drugs.
1 commentmy smoke filled weekend
I’m amazed that bushfires that are hundreds of kilometres away manage to fill my backyard with smoke. However it wasn’t all that bad, It meant that I spent the last two days indoors watching movies. I ended up watching United 93, which I was rather disappointed in (The Seconds From Disaster - Flight 93 documentary was much better), and an Australian film ‘Kenny’, I must admit it was one of the best Australian films I’ve ever seen (it however can’t quite compete with ‘The Castle’). I then spent today watching the ‘Make Poverty History’ concert DVD which I was rather impressed with considering it came free in a newspaper. After this I spent the rest of the day watching CNN newsclips, and watching music videos on Bigpond Music.
