a big night

December 29th, 2007 | Category: Friends, Holidays, Home

After the conclusion of Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test, Pat and myself decided that we would celebrate Pat’s recent 18th with a trip to Crown. We decided to kill some time after the cricket by seeing National Treasure - Book of Secrets which was pretty good (I also liked the first one). Then after our Disney movie adventure we hit the casino. It was a good night and both of us came out ahead with Roulette being the game of choice (and most profitable).

Then this morning we both decided that it was way to hot to be going to the Cricket so we stayed at Pat’s apartment and watched it in air conditioned comfort. So now I’m finally home and getting ready for another big night on New Years Eve.

my new gadget

December 27th, 2007 | Category: Home, Shopping, Technical

onev3.gifWell today I went out and finally bought myself a GPS. Since I wanted a simple unit without all the bells and whistles I opted for the TomTom ONE Version 3. It is a nice little unit, and after giving it a bit of a run today I am very impressed. In other news I also went to the second day of the Boxing Day Test which was good, although India’s excessive caution practically brought the game to a stand still.

boxing day test

December 26th, 2007 | Category: Holidays

Today I headed to the MCG to watch the Boxing Day test between Australia and India. It was an enjoyable day and in the end I watched very little cricket (who goes there for the cricket anyway?). Two members of the group ended up getting thrown out by the police  and most of the day was filled with singing, trying to start the mexican wave (was moderately successful one time) and drinking.

On a more festive note yesterday was Christmas Day, I headed down to the Portsea Hotel with my family and had lunch there, overall it was a great albeit tiring day. I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas Day and a relaxing Boxing Day, next stop; New Years Eve.

it’s all fixed

December 20th, 2007 | Category: Blog

For those who use a blog reader to read my blog you would have noticed many posts being re-imported, the reason; well my entire blog crashed and I had to re-import every post that I have made since moving over to my webhost. However everything looks good now, but I still have to get some things up and running again (ie. the lighting effects on the gallery pics). So sorry for the downtown and subsequent post re-importation, but it was necessary to keep this blog alive.

the results are in

December 17th, 2007 | Category: Shopping, VCE

Today was the dreaded day for VCE results. I received mine via sms at approximately 7:18am. I must admit I am marginally disappointed, one subject in particular, National Politics. Here is a breakdown of my scores;

EN01 - English
GA 1: A+
GA 2: A+
GA 3: B
Study Score: 36
MA07 - Further Mathematics
GA 1: A
GA 2: B+
GA 3: B
Study Score: 34
NP03 - National Politics
GA 1: A
GA 2: B+
GA 3: B+
Study Score: 31
SO03 - Sociology
GA 1: A
GA 2: A+
GA 3: A
Study Score: 39

This gives me a grand old ENTER score of 81.55 which is enough to get me into the course I want to do which is what counts. What has really annoyed me is the scaling which makes these modest results look appalling.

interesting times

December 15th, 2007 | Category: Holidays, School

Well it has been an enjoyable couple of days and I’m now about halfway through my trip. An interesting development that I found out about yesterday was the appointment of the new Haileybury principal, Mr. Derek Scott. Derek (or Scotty as most people call him) has been the Head of Senior School for the last 3 years (well actually 4 ‘Haileybury’ years if you count this 4B thing). Derek began his Haileybury career at Newlands before making the transition to Senior School. I had the pleasure to ‘work’ with Derek for the last year and he has always been a great Head of Precinct. So I congratulate Scotty on his appointment and I look forward to seeing him in action.

my week in sydney begins

December 13th, 2007 | Category: Family, Holidays, Shopping

Well I have arrived in Sydney (yesterday actually) after an extremely bumpy flight which resulted in us circling Canberra. The weather up here unfortunately isn’t great but it has improved this afternoon. I spent most of the day looking for a new wallet after my last one got a hole in the coin area which resulted in me spilling coins everytime I removed my wallet from my pocket. There’s not much more to report except I will be going to the Sydney Aquarium tomorrow (apparently it’s much better than Melbourne’s). Then I will be off to enjoy the sights and sounds of Darling Harbour.

it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

December 10th, 2007 | Category: Family, Holidays, Home

Well it’s that time of year again and I must say I have always enjoyed Christmas (especially all the food). Today we put the Christmas tree up which was good, and amazingly all the Christmas lights worked straight out of the box for the first time every (usually your going along trying to find out which globe is blown). So that was basically my adventure filled day, and now its only two more days until I’m enjoying Sydney.

the blog is back on the agenda

December 08th, 2007 | Category: Blog

Due to my overall lack of free time my blog has been neglected somewhat. But now that I have some spare time (well at least until Wednesday) I thought I should work on my little creation, so you will gradually see some things being rolled out (or taken away depending on what works best). Of course there will be nothing major (like a layout change) but overall should prove useful (like AJAX script in the comments procedure).

In actual news, well not much has happened, except I did get a chance to drive on the newly completed Pakenham Bypass (at 100km/h not the original 60km/h that I went on last week), I must say it certainly cuts travel times between the edge of nowhere and the middle of nowhere, if only they could build a freeway between my house and 3 or 4 useful destinations!

two speech nights down

December 05th, 2007 | Category: School, Technical

Well Newlands and Edrington have had both their speech nights and they went off without a hitch. Of course the usual suspects have simply recycled their speeches and simply replaced the precinct name. Last night I had the priveledge to read out some prizes for the Edrington speech night, of course the food before hand was good with the whole plate of the ‘duck things’ being polished off by Mr. Twist and myself. So overall this week hasn’t been that exciting and tomorrow will mark the end of my official duties for the school when Derrick Ha speaks at Newlands for the last time.
